Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 1, 2026
The Sharon Independence Day mobile application ("the App") is operated by the Sharon Independence Day Committee ("we," "us," or "our"), a volunteer community organization in Sharon, Massachusetts.
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and what choices you have. By using the App you agree to the practices described below.
1. Information We Collect
Information you provide voluntarily
- Questions & feedback: If you submit a question through the in-app Q&A form, we collect the text of your question and, if you choose to provide it, your name. This information is stored so that we can publish answers for the benefit of all attendees.
- Volunteer administrator accounts: Authorized committee volunteers may create a sign-in using an email address (and, depending on the sign-up method, a password) to access restricted tools in the App (for example, updating the schedule, map, and announcements). We use this only to verify access for those tools.
- Festival photo submissions (optional): If you use the in-app or web feature to share a photo, we receive the image file, optional name or caption and optional social handle you enter, and store the image in our Supabase cloud storage (same provider as the rest of the event data) for committee use (for example, displaying or promoting community content in line with the event). We do not use these photos for advertising or third-party marketing beyond event-related purposes you would expect.
Information collected automatically
- Standard server logs: Our hosting provider (Supabase) may record standard technical data such as your IP address, request timestamps, and device type when the App communicates with our servers. This data is used solely for maintaining service reliability and diagnosing errors.
- Push notification tokens: If you opt in to receive push notifications, the App registers your device with our notification provider and stores a device token (and platform type, such as iOS or Android) on our systems so we can send you festival announcements. You can turn off notifications at any time in your device settings, and you may be prompted in the App to grant or withdraw permission.
What we do not use
- We do not collect your precise location, contacts, photos, or other sensor data from your device for the features described in this policy.
- We do not embed third-party advertising networks or cross-app “tracking” SDKs. Operational data in our systems (for example, counts to run the event and to support volunteer admin tools) is not used to sell or profile users for marketing.
- We do not sell, rent, or share personal information with third parties for their own marketing.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To display community questions and answers, schedules, the map, and other event information within the App.
- To send push notifications to users who have opted in, for festival-related messages such as time or venue updates.
- To sign in and authorize volunteers who help operate the App’s administrative features.
- To maintain, protect, and improve the App, and to respond to inquiries or issues you raise.
3. Data Storage & Security
Data is stored on servers operated by Supabase (hosted on AWS in the United States). We use industry-standard HTTPS encryption for data in transit. While we take reasonable measures to protect your information, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure.
4. Data Retention
Questions submitted through the App are retained for the duration of the celebration season and may be deleted afterward at our discretion. Server logs are typically retained for no more than 90 days. Account data for volunteers and device tokens used for push notifications are retained as needed to provide the service and are removed or invalidated when you withdraw consent (for example, by disabling notifications) or when we no longer need them, consistent with our operations.
5. Children's Privacy
The App is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
6. Your Rights & Choices
- You may use the App’s public features, such as the schedule and map, without submitting personal information.
- Push notifications are optional. You can disable them in your device’s settings for the App, or by declining permission if prompted when you first use the App.
- If you have submitted a question and would like it removed, or if you have a request regarding volunteer account data, contact us at the email below.
- California residents and EU/EEA visitors have additional rights under CCPA and GDPR, respectively; contact us to exercise them where applicable.
7. Third-Party Services
The App uses the following third-party services (each with its own privacy terms):
- Supabase (database, authentication, and related backend) — supabase.com/privacy
- Google Firebase (Firebase Cloud Messaging) (sending push notifications to your device) — firebase.google.com/support/privacy and, where applicable, Google’s Privacy Policy
- Apple App Store / Google Play (distributing the App) — see the platforms’ own privacy documentation for data they may collect from you in connection with installing or updating the App.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top will reflect material changes. Continued use of the App after we post updates constitutes acceptance, except where a different requirement applies by law.
